Creating Jazz Melodies - Week 11 - Manipulating the V Chord


The more tunes you play, the more knowledge you tend to understand playing over chord changes. In this lesson we will look at two different ways on how to give you that “outside” or “modern” sound when playing over changes. Specifically the V chord of the “parent key” of any tune. As we discussed before with Tritone substitution and the use of the melodic minor scale, let’s have a look at using these techniques to enhance our harmonic vocabulary in jazz.
