10-Minute Guitar Practice Routine

Start your guitar journey today: ►https://ift.tt/39yNwcp Download the workout chords and scale chart here: ►https://ift.tt/2QqgFkp ►https://ift.tt/30YrxYx 0:00 - Intro Ayla Tesler-Mabe put together a 10-minute workout routine to help build dexterity in your fingers so you can jam out on the guitar with ease. 0:30 - Open Chords The chords you will be playing in this workout are A Major, D Major, and E Major which you'll eventually turn into an A7, D7, and E7 chord. 1:04 - Minor Pentatonic Scale The scale you'll be encountering is the minor pentatonic scale. You'll be moving the scale around and add a few extra notes to it as well! 1:29 - 12-Bar Blues Progression The practice starts with the open chords for a 12-bar blues progression. Follow along with Ayla and the chord charts to play in time with her! Repeat this step a couple of times to get your playing hand flowing. 2:58 - Changing Chords You'll be doing the same progression but changing the chords to make it bluesier! You can play quarter notes or whole notes -- whatever you're vibing with! 4:06 - Changing strumming Pattern Now you're gonna swing the strumming pattern by adding an up-strum to your chord progression. 5:17 - A Minor Pentatonic Scale You'll be starting on the 5th fret -- Download the chart above to follow along with the minor pentatonic scale. 6:31 - F# Minor Pentatonic Scale Now move the same scale down three frets and run through this scale a few times. It's great to practice both of these so you can solo over the chord progression you played earlier in the video. 7:05 - Add Extra Note Go back to the A minor Pentatonic scale but add a sharp 4 note to give it more of a blues tone. This also is a great finger exercise to build dexterity. 8:33 - Major/Minor Hybrid Pentatonic Scale Now do the same thing down three frets to turn this minor pentatonic into a hybrid scale. 9:40 - Dexterity Exercise Use all of your fingers now to warm them all up, especially your middle finger (it hasn't moved much)! It also helps to keep your fingers as close to the strings as possible. 11:04 - Speed it Up Keep doing what you're doing but now try speeding it up. Playing with a metronome will help with changing the tempo to improve your speed and timing. 11:32 - Triplets You make it to the last exercise -- keep doing the same scale but now with triplets! It may be a bit difficult at first, but keep at it and you'll see improvement!
