Top 10 Pop Guitar Riffs of 2020 | Ayla Tesler-Mabe

Play your first guitar solo (and more free stuff): ►https://ift.tt/377u9r1 0:00 - Intro Ayla Tesler-Mabe compiles the top ten pop songs from 2020 that have funky guitar parts, awesome solos, and even old country licks and demonstrates each one. 0:54 - Justin Bieber & Shawn Mendes - Monster What makes the song so effective is the guitar tone. With its over-saturated overdrive and fuzz (and Ayla’s own touch of octave and tremolo), the guitar part is has a full presence while remaining understated. 2:29 - Dua Lipa - Break My Heart The guitar tone is compressed and clean giving the song a funky style that's reminiscent of music from the late ’70s and early ’80s. 3:41 - Lil Nas X - Rodeo The guitar work is inspired by the stylistic choices of an old western movie mixed with surf rock. Ayla provides practical tips on how to make the unique riff have bite to it. 5:03 - BTS - Dis-ease This song has VERY jazzy chords and a VERY groovy strumming pattern. She teaches you the names of each chord in the progression and the strumming technique used in this song. 6:16 - Doja Cat - Say So The tasteful guitar work comes down to the funk stylistic playing. If you're just starting to learn about funk technique, this is a great place to start. 7:57 - Ariana Grande - My Hair Ayla plays through the guitar riff slowly so you can hear the chord voicings to play along with the full song yourself. 9:06 - Billie Eilish - My Future The guitar plays a huge role in this song to shift the entire song after the "beat drop." It includes a lot of funky up-strums and palm muting. 10:54 - Miley Cyrus - WTF Do I Know This song on the list has an ACTUAL guitar solo. The first lick is straight from the pentatonic scale, and then breaks out of the minor key and plays a major third -- a common move in rock songs. 12:36 - Zayn - Better The chord progression is an example of a modal interchange (barring a chord you wouldn't typically use in the progression). This adds to the moodiness of the song. 13:52 - Harry Styles - Adore You The song brings back great influences from the ’60s, and the guitar work in this song reflects that! Back to Basics

Should Musicians Retrain with Rob Chapman and WaterBear College of Music's Bruce Dickinson. Remember when the government told creatives to retrain? Rob Chapman gives us his views on why musicians should continue to create. This is a seriously hot topic; 2020 has been a year of change and we as musicians simply have to adapt to the environment. You can also hear what WaterBear founders Bruce Dickinson and Adam Bushell have to say about this subject here over on the WaterBear YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQCbTFU8rtU Stay Creative. The 10 Levels Of 12-Bar Blues (Guitar Lesson)

Play your first guitar solo (and more free stuff): ►https://ift.tt/377u9r1 0:00 - Intro In this lesson, Ayla Tesler-Mabe goes through the ten different levels of playing a twelve-bar blues song on guitar. 1:44 - Level 1 The simplest approach in playing a twelve-bar blues as you’re only switching between three open dominant chords. 5:17 - Level 2 Replace the open chords with their bar chord predecessors to get different voicings. 8:33 - Level 3 End the progression with an augmented chord to get a cool transition into the beginning of the song. 11:37 - Level 4 Shake things up again by changing the way you play the dominant chords in the song’s chord progression. 14:10 - Level 5 Add a diminished chord to the mix to which Ayla describes as a “classic blues move.” 16:32 - Level 6 Halfway through and we’re getting jazzy! Add a new interval that will bring more sophistication to your guitar sound. 20:44 - Level 7 Throw in a turnaround in the chord progression to get another cool transition into restarting the song. 22:46 - Level 8 Replace your dominant chords with a tritone substitution. PS - this level is easier to play than the previous level...your fingers will thank you! 27:38 - Level 9 Incorporate different tritone substitutions and re-harmonizations to the song. 31:14 - Level 10 Just play guitar but really FEEL what you’re playing! 9 Essential Guitar Pedals to Control Your Tone | Ayla Tesler-Mabe

Play your first guitar solo (and more free stuff): ►https://ift.tt/377u9r1 0:00 Intro Ayla Tesler-Mabe is back, and this time, she’s showcasing her favorite pedals she simply can’t live without. 1:04 - Reverb ( Fender Marine Layer Reverb ) A pedal you will see on almost every pedalboard is the reverb. It adds more life and dimension to your guitar tone. 2:20 -Tremolo ( Boss TR-2 ) Imagine your guitar sounding like it's underwater, in a good way! The tremolo pedal does this by changing the volume of the signal. 2:51 - Chorus ( Boss CE-2 ) The chorus pedal doubles your guitar sound to make it sound like there’s more than one playing together, just like a chorus (go figure)! It sounds great when you add in tremolo or phaser as Ayla does here. 3:50 - Phaser ( Dunlop MXR EVH90 Phase 90 ) If you want to play like Eddie Van Halen with that arena rock tone, look no further than this phaser pedal. In this scenario, Ayla pairs it with her tremolo pedal to get a cool effect that sets the tone apart from other phaser effects. 4:31 - Envelope Filter ( Electro-Harmonix Micro Q-Tron ) Similar to a wah pedal, the envelope filter changes the frequencies, but without having to control it with your foot. Once you dial in your tone and adjust it according to your guitar, you're good to go! 5:28 - Overdrive ( Lawrence Petross Design 68 Drive ) Handmade in Arizona, this overdrive pedal is extremely versatile and provides a huge tone to your playing. 7:48 - Overdrive ( Aleks K Honey Moon Sweet Overdrive) Another handmade overdrive pedal, but this one is from Vancouver, B.C. When paired with the other overdrive pedal, it produces a large, full, tone perfect for shredding lead parts. 10:46 - Octave ( Electro-Harmonix Micro POG ) This pedal adds an effect that's an octave higher or lower than what your original guitar sound is. It'll make one chord you're playing sound like you're playing three. Ayla demonstrates a powerful and loud tone when she combines the delay, overdrive, and octave. 11:34 - Tuner ( TC Electronic PolyTune) It keeps your guitar in perfect tune, what else could you want? This one in particular has a great LED display so it’s easy to see if you happen to be tuning in the dark.
