Bar Chord Hacks - Beginner Guitar Lesson

THIS MONTH ONLY - Save 50% on my 26-week technique course: ►http://bit.ly/2pEsGBR Get my FREE Beginner Guitar Starter Kit! ►https://goo.gl/Ts2uU6 Bar chords are a huge stumbling block for many guitar players. In this video, we’ll take a look at some handy alternatives to bar chords as well as some tricks and tips for making your bar chords feel and sound a lot better. The first thing we’ll do is break down our bar chords into their simplest form. To do this, we reduce the whole chord down to something called a triad, which is just the three notes used in the chord. This small shape can work in place of the full bar chord and requires no barring whatsoever. To expand further on this idea, we can begin adding notes back in. We can add the note on the highest string by creating a mini-bar with our first finger. We can also add in the note on the A string by adjusting our third finger and including our fourth. The final step here is to bring your thumb over the top to grab the low E string giving you the full bar chord without needing to do a big bar at all. Now, we’ll take a look at building proper bar chord technique. The key to making clean bar chords is mastering the bar. To do this, we’ll work on isolating the bar with our first finger and taking away all the other parts of the chord. Move the bar around the fretboard and make sure you place it right behind the fret. Clamp down hard with your thumb and make vertical adjustments with your finger to make sure none of the creases in your finger line up with the strings. Be sure to keep your elbow in! Do this every day and focus on building up your strength. Bar chords take some time to really get down so don’t get discouraged! Implement these tips and try out the alternatives in your daily practice time. Learn “Yesterday” by The Beatles | Fingerstyle Guitar Lesson

THIS MONTH ONLY - Save 50% on my 26-week technique course: ►http://bit.ly/2pEsGBR Get my FREE Beginner Guitar Starter Kit! ►https://goo.gl/Ts2uU6 Learning songs on the guitar can be one of the most challenging yet rewarding endeavors you can embark upon as a guitarist. So in this video, we’ll take a deep dive into a solo fingerstyle version of “Yesterday” by The Beatles. This version of the song combines two separate musical parts. The first one is the alternating bass line that follows the chords throughout the song. The second part simply plays the melody at the same time. You’ll need to separate the two parts to start and focus on building up the basic coordination with your thumb and fingers on their own. An important thing to remember while learning a more complex song on the guitar is that you’ll want to break the piece down into small digestible chunks. As you get each chunk down, you can begin stringing them together. Always take it slow and focus on clean, clear playing. This piece will take you some time to master, so be patient and consistent with your practice. Over time, you’ll see progress. Don’t forget to celebrate the small wins and you’ll be playing this song perfectly in no time! Arranging Solo Fingerstyle Songs | “Yesterday” - The Beatles | Guitar Lesson

THIS MONTH ONLY - Save 50% on my 26-week technique course: ►http://bit.ly/2pEsGBR Get my FREE Beginner Guitar Starter Kit! ►https://goo.gl/Ts2uU6 One of the things you can do on the guitar that sets it apart from many other instruments is that you can play multiple rhythms and melodies at the same time. This allows us to create some pretty awesome arrangements. So in this video, we’re going to take you behind-the-scenes and show you how Nate goes about transforming “Yesterday” by The Beatles into a solo fingerstyle piece. To start, we’ll listen through the song and find the chords. Once we’re certain that we know the chords, we’ll plug everything into Guitar Pro and create a bass line following the chords. To do this, we just need to take the root note and the 5th (in most cases) of each chord and alternate them back and forth using eighth notes. Now that we have a bass line, we’ll write out the melody on the higher strings. We need to make sure that the notes are in the best locations so we can reach them with our fretting hand while still fretting our bass notes. From here, it’s all about meshing them together and practicing. And then more practicing. It’ll take some time to really get all this coordination down and play the song at full speed.
